About Cathy as a Therapist
Cathy Thiesen is a Licensed Mental Health Counseling Associate (LMHCA) in Washington and a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in Oregon as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor. She is able to provide in person or telehealth counseling for residents of Washington and Oregon.
Cathy is an empathetic, compassionate listener who provides a safe space in which clients can find hope and growth. She believes that every individual is capable of change, and that through relationships and connection, there can be healing. She believes that each client has their own unique story and needs, and uses a combination of cognitive and behavioral techniques along with a client-centered, attachment approach. Cathy is trained in play therapy and uses sand tray and other play therapy techniques with young children. With adolescents and adults, Cathy works with clients to set goals, work on skills, and process difficult emotions and events.

Cathy is an out-of-network provider and is able to provide superbills (“therapy receipts”) to any client who wishes to use his/her out-of-network benefits.
When exploring your out-of-network benefits, you may want to ask your insurance carrier about the policy/coverage for an out-of-network provider, deductible, rate of reimbursement, number of sessions authorized per year, process for obtaining reimbursement, and if prior-authorization is required.
There are benefits to paying for counseling out of pocket. It allows you the most privacy and control of your treatment. Your records remain free from any audit or compliance check. You maintain the most flexibility and control in deciding the session frequency, longevity, content, and interventions. Insurances are not informed of any applicable mental health diagnosis.

Cathy loves spending time with her husband, four kids, and two dogs in her spare time. She loves tending to her vegetable garden, reading books, knitting, and talking with friends over a cup of coffee. She also loves finding food that reminds her of her home state, Texas, such as barbecue or chips and queso.
